Dad said they weren't getting a dog, they were only going to go and play with dogs at the rescue shelter. Somehow I can't see that working and it didn't.
No matter how adamant dad was, they wanted a dog and this why Chewy, the Brussels Griffon, was growling at the lamp at the end of Olly's bed, while Olly who was lying there nice and cosy and was calling out to dad.
On weekends dad was content for the kids to rinse off after they have been to the beach and swimming in the sea, but now its Monday and well, Felix has go and have a shower.
This means one thing. Felix is going into the shower and into Shower Land and an adventure to who knows where. In order to be prepared because he wasn't for his last big adventure, he is wearing his swimmers just in case he goes to Hawaii and his big furry jacket because he could end up in the snow. He also took his Rubik's cube and a Swiss Army knife and once packed up with his huge backpack (as seen in the illustration) and ready, he thinks he looks ridiculous, but then it's better to be prepared.
This time soon after he turned on the shower tap and opened his eyes he wishes he hadn't opened his mouth as well because all he got was a big gulp of blue seawater. He soon sees a ship and meets Deadly Pirate Lushbeard. It must be in a French territory as he soon learns a few words in French and some very silly an amazing things happen, including as per the title, walk the plank!
This Showlerland series are a treat. They are adventurously fun books for readers in the 7 - 10 year age group, They go along some incredible journeys with Felix. The authors writing captures these moments perfectly as she moulds the stories to fit these wonderfully creative and hilariously fun adventures. The illustrations capture the moments and images of Felix, the pirates he encounters and the bossy Lilou.
