The heroine of the story Ruby and her family are concerned about the bushfires and she really wants to help. The trouble is her beloved horse Rusty was startled by the noise of the bushfires when she was riding on Rusty recently and Ruby fell off and broke her leg.

After a few days in the hospital she is now home again, but in a wheelchair with her leg in a plaster cast.

Frustrated that she wants to help and not be helped, as her mum and dad are busy cleaning up  the fallen leaves to get them away from the home. When talking with Rusty they both notice a little possum who was hurt in the fires and Ruby has a good idea of how to help and make a difference

.

She springs into action, get her teachers at her school and classmates to help as they promote her idea and get the local community to help the koalas, possums and kangaroos who have burnt their paws or had their fur singed,

This cheerfully illustrated picture book for 7 - 12 year olds, demonstrates how to think laterally and see what a difference one person can make with an idea, enlisting others to help, even if you have a broken leg and in a wheelchair.

Included is a chart from the RFS (Rural Fire Service) with handy hints of how to prepare the home and property to prevent damage from bushfires.

It's a good gift for this time of the year when we have so many bushfires.
