Ultra Wild

An Audacious Plan to Rewild Every City on Earth

by Steve Mushin
Published by Allen and Unwin
ISBN 9781760292812

This is a unique book in almost every aspect, for ages 9 +, presented in a series of connected graphics, similar to a graphic novel, but definitely not a novel. Steve Mushin explains using over 100 hundred funny yet possibly / probably feasible ideas for rewilding the urban environment, to save the planet.

He explains his concerns for the built environment in which most of us live and the consequences for the natural world and the climate, in a different way

that this age group will understand and probably enjoy following. It may spark readers ideas own ideas.

Steve Mushin says he has always been interested in designing things and once he became an industrial designer he could put his ideas together in practical ways.

For readers who have a natural curiousity  it gives them the opportunity to follow his own thinking, as he describes how the urban environment can thrive, be super high-tech with rewilding and how it is possible to have urban jungles using water filtering, working with scientists and designers and not wasting every day resources.

This incredible futuristic thinking book is sure to ignite imaginations. There are some questions that need answering but overall this is a big book, in content, in size and design that is ideal for encouraging kids and could have wide appeal.

It is inspiring to see such broad well thought out thinking in a book for ages 9 and over, a few years over that could lead to developing ideas of their own.

Ultra Wild is Steve's first book. I am sure Ultra Wild is just the beginning in a series of books by Steve.

He works between Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, and in 2015 received an Australian Design Honours award for his work in sustainable futures thinking.
