Next Level is the third in the series of books on football sponsored by the Commonwealth Bank, featuring Matildas and Socceroo stars, Lydia Williams, Caitlin Foord, Milos Degenek, Andrew Redmayne.
In this latest story the Under 11s Merridale Fever are going to test their skills against the most talented young footballers in Australia.
An encouraging story that highlights the young players hopes, their fears and challenges. It also deals with the relationships between the players in their own teams.and new friendships with players from other teams that they have not met before.
It introduces the young reader to football jargon although it doesn't explain what these particular skills and manoeuvres are.
Interesting to note the descriptions explaining to kids the various exercises that are needed to develop skills to become a good football player.
It appears to be a good introduction to the next level of football for this age group. It could be inspiring for younger players who are already playing the game and for those who are considering starting.
The plot is based around the best teams to select the best eight boys and eight girls to play with two of the Socceroos and with two of the Matildas in the final of the training camp.
It is a well-written inspirational story peppered with a few fun illustrations.
