The story of an egg that washes up on a beach and is surrounded by the inhabitant eggs, is an interesting metaphor for explaining how we are unsure or superstitious.

This is the illustrators debut book illustration, but Harrison Vial's illustrations using gently stronger pastel colours  compliment this equally gentle story as the other Eggs question the new arrival and realise that that it's much the same s all the other Egg inhabitants of this remote island.

The story and illustrations cleverly deal with questions around displacement, environment, xenophobia and climate refugees as this little Egg suddenly appears in the ocean and lands on their beach.

Most of the eggs are wanting to turn the intruder around and hope that it floats away as easily as it arrived. During the night Egg becomes quite emotional as his tears soak the beach, but luckily a small friendly egg returns in the morning to see if he's ok. He keeps returning and eventually they form a friendship while the other eggs play in the shade of a tress on the beach as it welcomes new birds and their chicks.

You may find the story a little quirky, but it's also humorous and a gentle way of sharing how to deal with difference and diversity.
