This story clearly and gently demonstrates that a younger child who is worried or troubled about something just really needs someone to listen to them.
It oozes warmth and humour as the story unfolds with Billy and his friend Hippo who tries to cheer up Billy who is having a bad day.
Dear sweet Hippo, everyone needs a lovely friend like him. tries so many things to cheer up Billy when he seems him sitting forlornly on the sofa. He wonders why and thinks all that s needed for Billy to have some fun, perhaps wearing a dragon suit might do the trick or dancing around the cherry blossom trees, or sailing in a boat and seeing the huge waves which only scares Billy.
Hippo tries many things, but eventually his friend speak up and tells him what he really wants, a friend to talk to and to express his feelings about the things on his mind.
The author has created a caring, gentle story with soul for ages 3 - 5+ years, with his words and illustrations to match.
