An understanding, gentle and totally relatable picture book story exploring emotions for boys ages 4+. At some stage we all have bad days and this little boy is having one today. If anything could go wrong, it does.
From the moment he opens the curtains in his bedroom he sees it is a gloomy day and he really wanted to see a clear blue sky. - We can all understand to this!
Next dad thinks he has spilled some milk on the floor and he's told to mop it up. But he didn't do it. Then on his way to school he trips up and at lunch time his sandwiches fly away andso the day continues until he is fed up with this.
The illustrations are particularly well matched showing his expressions and the story in a simple, uncomplicated style that younger readers could relate to. But he does not cry, because he has been told that boys don't cry, Not even when a spaceship lands o his right toe. But, by this time he has well and truly had enough. - what a day! At the end dad comforts him when he sees a little tear escaping and a flow letting out his feelings as he is comforted.
Boys do Cry is a lovely, gentle story about dealing with younger children's emotions and making them feel a lot better as they realise these things are not as bad as it first seems.
Ending with a letter / comment from Hugh Jackman saying how he wished this book was available when the was young (this age) with some heart felt thoughts and wishes for parents and boys.
It is a worthwhile picture book for both parents and younger boys - ages 4+.
