Willa and Woof
Grandparents for Hire

by Jacqueline Harvey
Published by Penguin Random House

Another gorgeous story by Jacqueline Harvey with Willa and Woof. Willa  starts off by saying this is worst and best day. She is so excited when she hears that her school is going to have their first ever Grandparents Day until she realises that her grandparents can't be there and nor will several of the other children in her .class have their grandparents there.

Some kids become very upset and feel they will be left out, so what can they do?

Willa thinks she has a solution to make this a big success.

Willa, her dog Woof - there's a sweet story as to why he is called Woof and her friend Tae, make friends with some of the residents of Sunset Views retirement village. They regularly visits the residents as it is so close to where she lives.

But things aren't exactly going to plan.

Frank, Willa's  best old-age friend is in a grumpy mood and he won't let her borrow him for some reason she doesn't know the answer to.  At the same time there is something odd going on with her furry friend and trusty sidekick, Woof. Why does he keep disappearing and coming back smelling of perfume? And how does he get out of the back yard, even after Willa's dad put a lock on the gate?

This really is a most gorgeous story for kids in the 6 - 10 year age group. It's filled with realistic imagination, believable stories, how to interact with older people and one of the best things how to find solutions to tricky situations.
