In the new series called Our Stories, readers will find memorable and funny and diverse stories on First Nations lands.

This story about a young boy named Maku is the first book in the series  and he especially loves movies, with superheroes. His other favourite thing to do is to go bush with his Nan and Pop.

His Nan and Pop show him the Emu in the sky, and tell him all about the Rainbow Serpent..

Maku and his family have moved around a lot so he has been to a few schools which makes settling in and making friends rather difficult.

As the tale begins we meet Maku trying to settle into his new school but his friends whisper about him in the playground because he doesn't live with his mum and dad. They also thinks it's funny that his name means grub, bu not in the sense that his classmates think it does.

Once the students are given assignments to do Maku decides he want to make a film. That soon becomes life changing and without giving any spoilers Maku gains respect and friends who are in awe of his ideas and what he does.

This is a good little book for ages 5+ to help them accept others whatever their background or situation.

The author Weyne Wyatt is an award winning Wongutha-Yamatji performer, writer and director
