If you have ever wanted to or are interested in time travel, this latest book from outstandingly talented children's author R.A.Spratt is for you - your child. As she explains at the start, while time travel isn't possible (yet) in real life, it is through reading books.
Travel back thousands of years as Nanny Piggins takes readers on a journey though time in a fun-filled way, explaining the myths of facts from ancient to recent history.
Get the low down with easy to understand explanations of what may seem complicated Latin names and how words like helicopter came into use,
It really does make sense as readers find out about Hercules whose name was spelled differently, why Poseidon became Neptune while enjoying the stories of Nanny Piggins' adventures and the incredible things she gets up to, especially while eating cake, many slices of cake in one go and taking part in races that parents and carers are not supposed to enter.
The humour is uniquely Nanny Piggins, It's thoroughly enjoyable reading and a fun way to learn, without realising that you are learning.
The Fun Facts at the end of each chapter are fascinating and your child (and possibly you) will discover some amazing things. Do you know the story of pomegranates and why they have such significance when someone moves home, or the story behind Pandora's box? Or why Hera became Juno, the origins of the words merchant and merchandise with some amusing thoughts to ponder? The funny quips with some of these can't help but make readers smile or burst out laughing. There's dragons, daffodils, Zeus and many more and Nanny Piggins' antics.
It is worth reading R.A. Spratt's bio below to find out what set her on the path to becoming such an outstanding and successful author.
Epically Good Greek Myths is a heartily good read for ages 9 to 12 and older - there's bound to be some facts in here you didn't know. This book will make an ideal gift or one for the home and school library.
The author
R.A. Spratt was born in the UK and lived in Dursley, Gloucestershire – a town immortalised by Harry Potter’s deeply unpleasant relatives – until she was two years old. Then, like many ambitious English people cursed with regional accents so strong no other British person can take them seriously, her family moved to Australia. The tedium of growing up in the western suburbs of Sydney was fertiliser to the growth of R.A.’s imagination. The only thing for a kid to do was get on a bicycle and go to the library, so R.A. Spratt did just that. Once there, she read everything, devouring the books of Arthur Ransome, Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl, Robin Klein and Judy Blume, and audiotapes of Shakespeare productions and Sherlock Holmes dramatisations. And so, her young mind was formed, and set on the path of becoming the extraordinary author she is today. Now based in Bowral NSW, she's the bestselling writer of dozens of absurd and witty books including Friday Barnes, The Adventures of Nanny Piggins, The Peski Kids and the Shockingly and Astonishingly Good Stories collections. Her podcast, Bedtime Stories with R.A. Spratt, has had over 5 million downloads and connects R.A. with story-lovers across the globe
