Zola, her mum and nonna are preparing for Christmas at their home in an inner city multi-cultural suburb.

While at school, Zola's favourite teacher, Ms Divis explains to the whole class that while Christmas will soon be here there are several religious festivities centred around lights.

She tells them about Hannukah, Diwali, Ramadan and the Lunar New Year. Ms Divis poses a question to the class - do they know what all these festivals have in common?

The colourful and gorgeous illustrations bring the story to life as young readers will find out what happens in this adventure.

Zola wants to make her nonna (grandmother) happy again now that her nonno (grandfather) is no longer with them. Zola wants to decorate the house with Christmas lights and decorations but her nonna isn't so keen.

The neighbourhood children get together to look at the stars in their friend Leo's telescope who tells them that the earliest astronomers in the country were First Nations people as he tells them a story.

Continue reading and find out what everyone does to prepare for the holidays as they share traditions.

One day Zola is asked to go down the cellar - she's got permission to do that now, to collect some sauce for a dish her nonna is making for the meals at St Odo's to help people not as fortunate as her family, in the community. Accidentally something happens and their dogs find one of the salamis hanging in the cellar ... oops, she thought she'd closed the door properly,  but rather than being scolded, this leads to a fabulous surprise for Zola and warms her nonna's heart once again

This is a most delightful and heartwarming story for younger readers in the 4 - 6 year age group while ti also informative as it shares different traditions and how people come together to celebrate. A most worthwhile Christmas picture book for the little one in your family or friends.
