This heartwarming story tells the story of a shy young girl, Lucy, who lives with her dad in challenging circumstances. They keep moving around and they don't stay anywhere long enough for her to make good friends and so she finds it easier to retreat into her shell and only spend time with dad.

This isn't what she really wants, but Lucy knows that her loving dad does the best he can for them. She'd love to have a pet, so when she sees a snail she knows he will become her perfect pet.

Lucy cares for Snail, she finds a nice glass box for him to live in, she make sure he has food and water, too.  She talks to snail and confides in him. He's her special friend. She also likes her teacher, Miss Darling and her classmates and she'd love to stay where they are and not move on again.

Lucy loves helping out Mei-hui who owns the caravan park where they live and Mei-hui is good to Lucy. Fortunately their circumstances change. This is an easy book to read showing the reader that not everyone has a perfect home and family but things do and can turn out well in the end.
