The search for Plan B

By Dr Matt Agnew

Published by Allen and Unwin

ISBN 9781761065187

Dr Matt Agnew is a young PhD Astrophysicist with a real thirst and enthusiasm for the subject.

Although written for young adults but it is also interesting reading for adults.

Whether you enjoy learning about space and science or not, you will be drawn into this book by the very easy way in which Dr Matt writes and conveys reasonably complicated concepts using the very simplest of terms and explanations.

As you read and delve deeper into the book which is illustrated throughout with diagrams and photographs, you will learn the theory of how the universe was created with the Big Bang. The reader will also find out; how our Solar System was created; all about hydrogen and oxygen, the creation of Earth and the Moon, and how they all work together to support life.

The thought bubbles are useful as Dr Matt uses these to go into deeper explanations and for explaining relevant side topics.

Dr Matt goes onto explain general information and sometimes detailed information about the other planets of our solar system and their moons including Saturn's moon Enceladus and Europa which is Jupiter's largest moon.

He especially explains about Jupiter' gravitational pull which works against large meteors whose possible intended path could be on collision with Earth. It is fascinating to read that Jupiter has fifty-three named moons and more than two dozen that are waiting to be named. Dr Matt says he is a Jupiter fanatic and loves everything about the planet.

The information about the planets of other stars that are in their habitable zones is fascinating reading. The way in which Dr Matt explores the possibility of other life forms in our galaxy, the Milky Way and the other billions of galaxies that make up the universe.

Even if you have little interest in space or if you are like me and you are fascinated by the subject, this book will bring the concept and understanding of space into perspective.

Dr Matt's Guide to Life in Space is well written for the audience is an easy and pleasurable book to read.

His writing style and easy to understand explanations is presented in a way that makes a complicated subject very simple to understand.

Highly recommended reading for young adults and adults with an interest in space and the possibilities of life on other other planets.
