The Party Wish is a debut book in a new series about sisters whose name is not wish, but as Flick the older sister says, their house is filled with wishes.
If you have a little one or perhaps a young relative who loves unicorns this rather sweet story is sure to appeal to them. Flick reads the picture book about a unicorn called Petunia over and over again to her thirteen month old baby sister who adores the story.
Flick gets tired of reading the same old story but then when she looks at the photo of Granny Aggie who died recently Flick remembers that she promised to be the best big sister ever. She is going to keep that promise.
Then one Sunday just as she thought she would get up early before her mum and dad to help herself to some breakfast she discovers her parents are already up and staring out the glass door into their garden. Flick can't believe what she sees - there's a real-life unicorn that poops cup cakes, fluffy cloud cakes and more of the things that Birdie loves in her story book.
The family has a nosy neighbour, so how are they going to keep Mrs Mortlake from knowing about Birdie's magical powers.
This is a delightful book, funny, fun and an intriguing read for younger children learning to read. It is sure to keep them interested and turning those pages with the cute black and white illustrations.
