Patrick Simmons, or Patch as he prefers to be called opens the story with a goodbye letter to his pen pal and explains that he has decided it is time for him to find a boyfriend.
In order to do this, Patch feels he must declutter his life and make way for whomever this new boyfriend will be. Acknowledging that his isn't going to be easy as all the other boys in his drama club who are out, have already hooked up with each other.
Written for ages 12 and over, the writing is light hearted, fun and at times quite hilarious. It is easy to see why this the comparison with Bridget Jones.
Patch thinks he must set a deadline for attracting a boyfriend, but given the situation, he isn't quite sure which way to go, longer term until the end of the year or sooner. However, as his luck would have it Peter who has recently moved over from New York and his best friend Sam also join the drama club. Noticing that Peter is rather smart, or very chic as he says he sets his sight and becomes confident that either Peter or Sam will be his first boyfriend.
But will they like him or will Patch like boys? Jean, his supportive and at times overly so, best friend and Patch and a huge self-confidence strike out to see if this will work.
While the topic won't appeal to all readers, it is a rather fun story.
