scientists who in 1959 travelled to the edge of the world. This tribute to their work amongst the giant seabirds, snorting seals and penguins is ideal for kids to get to know more about the natural world In a.far away place while learning about the remarkable work these scientists performed.

Read how Mary Gillham became one of the first woman scientists to join a research expedition to Macquarie Island. Mary and three other scientists, Isobel Bennett, Hope McPherson and Susan Ingham set sail from Melbourne in December aboard the Thala Dan. On their way they were followed by Albatrosses and eventually they reached what seemed like the edge of the world.

The illustrations help younger readers to identify different species and find out about the many creatures that live in this part of the world while accompanying the scientists on their walks and seeing what they discover. Some of these are very friendly!

Readers will also find out about women explorers and the abridged timeline of Macquarie Island beginning 600,000 years ago to present day is most interesting and spark some interest for their futures,

This is a beautifully book with lovely pastel illustrations and an easy to read and comprehend story for the age group.
