Renowned and respected Dr Norman Swan's latest book is packed with a host of essential information for parents with children up to the age of ten years.

Beginning with his own childhood story growing up in Glasgow, Scotland in a sometimes trying circumstances it is an interesting introduction for the reader to get to know the man behind the scenes.

I found it particularly helpful to get to know more about the person behind his vast knowledge with his more than 30 years as medical broadcaster and guest reporter on several television programs.

Dr Swan's in-depth medical knowledge and specialising in paediatrics is brought to the fore in his easy to read, warm, chatty writing style as he covers just about every topic you would possibly want to know for raising healthy children form birth to age 10.

He encourages parents to develop warm attitudes, which he explains, in all aspects for raising their children and the difference it makes to their relationships and the type of person their child will become.

The following chapter explains how  to deal with a child who has ADHD. There is chapter on how to raise children who can cope with stress with many useful tips -  helpful life skill. Another particularly interesting and important chapter focuses on how to get your child ready for kindy (preschool) and school through coping and guiding emotions.Later in life armed with this knowledge it could save many destructive situations from developing and make for a much happier time within the school  environment and for kid's school life.

No doubt you will also find the chapter titled Social, double aaaargh! useful, as it looks at comparing oneself with others, social media, social situations, popularity and a lot more where all sorts of problems can easily arise. Another particularly interesting topic is about whether younger children should watch the news and whether kids in the 9+ age group should be exposed to it with the negativity and unnecessary worry it can cause. While here Dr Swan includes screen time, what is fine with explanations of what is not and how you can cope with this.

It appears anxiety has become prevalent, a few books on this topic that have been reviewed in schooldaysmagazine. More kids, teens and adults are becoming  anxious and suffering with anxiety. This is another sizeable chapter in So You Want to Know What's Goodfor Your Kids with strategies to help and Dr Swan also discusses the  availability of treatments.

The style of the top line, information and solutions and the bottom line style for each chapter makes this book easy to choose topics you want to read..

It is a helpful gold mine of information to have on hand, which can easily be read in individual chapters as and when needed.
