This is a particularly interesting and engaging biography for kids, aged 6 - 10 years about the F1 legend Australian, Perth born, Daniel Ricciardo - who pronounces Rick-arr-doe.

The presentation while similar to other books about Formula One racing legends is quite different in its content. While easy to read, younger readers will find out a huge amount of information about this talented F1 driving legend.

His introduction to racing was through his dad Joe and Daniel says he remembers being in his mum's arms watching his dad race. He loves the speed and the noise.

His dad and family who noticed his sporting focus they hoped he would take up something lie football or tennis, but soon found that young Daniel was keen on motorsport and F1 in particular - this was the prize, his focus, his goal.

Beginning by taking up go-karting which seems to be the common thread amongst racing drivers, Daniel was keen to progress. Including the information about F1 cars with a simple drawing and showing all the important points is helpful.

There is a lot more to find out, such as that Daniel Riccaiardo has so far won eight Grand Prix races and been on the podium thirty-two times - yes, thirty two! He has developed superb skills, he is known for being good under pressure, his brakes late so he has less wear and tear on the tyres. Thought go-karting he learned how to be agile, be a strategic thinker, how to work in a team and be competitive and a lot more.

Readers will find out how he rose through the racing ranks to eventually win his way to his prize, to race in F1 and which teams he has raced in. Like all motor racing drivers, he is an exceptional man.

There are plenty of interesting statistics and gems of information to read of behind the scenes about the racing cars, their equipment and loads of fun things too. I had to laugh when I read how he loves ice cream - so do I, although I'm not sure I could eat half a litre in one go, well maybe I could.

Young readers could also be inspired to pursue their dreams. Even if your child (or you) have only an inkling of interesting motor racing, I am sure you will find abridged biography about Daniel Ricciardo informative, inspirational and thrilling to read.

The illusteator

Leigh Hedstrom is a freelance illustrator who lives on the Sunshine Coast with her husband and son. She grew up in South Africa, drawing every day and dreaming that one day she might become an animator. In the early 2000s, hand-drawn animation studios all around the world closed their doors, so she had to find the next best thing, which turned out to be the actual best thing - illustration. What Leigh loves about illustrating is that she's been able to work across a bunch of different industries: publishing, education, advertising, and more recently, toy design.
