Interview with Outstanding Teacher,  Ashleigh Muir

by Dr Hans A Andrews

Ashleigh Muir, is a greatly appreciated teacher at Pinjarra Pre-School
in Pymble, Sydney, nominated for the "Rising Star" Award.

I recently interviewed  outstanding pre-school teacher and award nominee Ashleigh Muir, from Pinjarra Pre-school, Pymble in Sydney. Although Asheligh is a young teacher, at the beginning of her career, she has already made her mark, encouraging a love of learning.

Q: Prior to your nomination as an award winning teacher had you ever received special recognition from for your teaching before?

A: Being so young and new to teaching I haven't received special recognition at this level before. However I have received positive feedback and recognition for my love and desire of being an early childhood educator, from my colleagues.

Q: Did you feel the recognition was for good work you were doing with your class?

A:  I believe the recognition was for the enthusiasm and energy I bring to the classroom. I love interacting with the children and watching/supporting their love for learning. I enjoy spending a lot of time displaying my set ups to my high standards. I feel it is important that it looks inviting and exciting in order for the children to be able to learn through their play.  I take the time after hours to ensure I have met these goals.

Q: Who made the nomination for your recognition?

A: I have no idea who nominated me for the award of "Rising Star." But I can't wait to find out who the sneaky person was! I would really like to thank whoever it was.

Q: What kind of responses have you received from your other teachers in your school building or other teachers in the school district?

A: I have received such lovely support from the other educators with whom I work. It's great to have such a close and supportive community of other educators and parents.

Q: What else would you like to add for teachers in the in Australia, the UK, and the USA relative to the importance of special recognition for excellence in their teaching?

A: To all the young one educators, I want to encourage you all, to put your mind to what you want to achieve. If your mind is set to achieving it you will do just that. At the end of the day, you will get recognition. Whether it's mum, dad, other staff or just benefiting in being able to see the positive impact you have on the children's life, it's all gold for me.

Overall you know withIn yourself, how great you are and to me, that is just as important. Everyone's time will come. Continue your hard work and love for your job. One smile spreads to everyone in the classroom. Keep on smiling and continuing the hard work.

Having said all that, it was very rewarding and exciting to be recognised for my work with children. This is one of the biggest milestones in my life and it has been very rewarding just being nominated. I can't wait to find out more, and support other educators being recognised.
