At the 2017 music industry ARIA awards, Renee McCarthy from Woodcroft College in Morphett Vale in Adelaide, was announced as the winner of the  inaugural ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Award.

Renee’s music program at Woodcroft College has helped students get involved in positive activities, establish connections with others and develop their confidence.

Renee McCarthy said, "I am so excited to be recognised by The Song Room and ARIA for doing a job that I love.

As a music teacher, I already consider myself lucky for being able to share the musical journeys with my special students, and to receive this Award is an incredible honour.

I hope this Award shines the spotlight on music education for all students all across Australia."
